“Confronting the Resurgent Right” Editor Miriam Edelson – book launch

Posted April 13th, 2026

Sunday, June 7th

Doors open at 4:30, launch begins at 5:00 at Whodunit Books

163 Lilac St.

Join editor Miriam Edelson in conversation with James Wilt as they discuss the deep roots and new threats of right-wing extremism in Canada. Confronting the Resurgent Right launches at Whodunit Books.

Over the past decade, we have witnessed the global mainstreaming of hate as false narratives and conspiracy theories about equity and inclusion, immigration, COVID-19 and vaccinations, and the “gay agenda” have become permissible talking points among right-wing politicians, pundits, and influencers.

In Confronting the Resurgent Right, scholars and activists take Canada’s 2022 “Freedom Convoy” as a recent manifestation of deep-rooted extremism. Providing intersectional commentary on the resurgence of the right, they demonstrate how its ideology permeates and shapes the structures of our society.

Balancing evidence-based research with careful analysis of the genesis and methods of the right, this volume models pathways of resistance and charges us to work together to expose and counter the regressive forces that spew hate.

Miriam Edelson Ed.D (OISE) is an independent researcher and writer/editor living in Toronto, Canada. She worked in the labour movement for thirty years, specializing in human rights and communications.

James Wilt is a researcher and writer who has lived in Winnipeg for a decade, and currently works as the Policy Development Manager at Climate Action Team Manitoba. He received his PhD in geography from the University of Manitoba, where he studied the environmental history of oil spill research in Canada. He is also the author of three books—on public transit, alcohol politics, and policing—and previously worked as a freelance journalist in Alberta focusing on climate and energy politics.

Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Memorial

Posted April 13th, 2026

April 16th, 7:00 pm

Ukrainian Labour Temple

581 Pritchard Ave.

For the past 81 years, the United Jewish People’s Order/Jews for Social Justice has honoured the memory of those who took part in the largest single revolt by Jews against the Nazis in World War II. The April 1943 uprising of the Warsaw Ghetto was an impossible situation, but the young men and women who took up arms chose to fight rather than let the Germans determine the time and place of their deaths. The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising stands out in history as an example of collective resistance and will not be forgotten.

This year’s event, The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and its Meaning for Humanity will be addressed by Dr. Lionel Steiman and Shahina Siddiqui, with a choral presentation by the North End Jewish Folk Choir.

Everyone is welcome, with no cost to atted. Please bring family and friends.
