Weekend celebration of the1919 Winnipeg General Strike with a focus on what we can learn from this important historical event. A time and place for those promoting social justice and environmental issues in workplaces, community, and schools. A chance to meet, learn, plan and mobilize.

MayWorks Picnic

The Winnipeg Labour Council is pleased to host a family picnic. Children attending the picnic will receive hot dogs, balloons, entertainment, inflatable rides and a entry in a free bike raffle! The picnic is open to all members of Winnipeg Labour Council, affiliated unions, their families and the children of Rossbrook House, Andrews Street Family Centre and the Winnipeg Boys and Girls Club.

Doors Open Festival

Doors Open Event: Tour of the Ukrainian Labour Temple which is celebrating its 90th anniversary. The tour will begin with a brief talk on the circumstances which led to the construction of this building and its intended use, a brief description of the architectural and engineering features of the exterior and interior, the uses of the building, and special significance which resulted in its being designated a Provincial and Municipal heritage site.

The tour will include a brief social history of the community, a description of the events which took place here (including events connected to the Winnipeg General Strike); and will include special features of the interior, the stage, balcony, etc.

Tour takes place on Sunday, May 24th, beginning at 10 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m.

Strike! – Winnipeg Shocks the Nation

In commemoration of the 90th Anniversary of the Winnipeg General Strike!, Danny Schur presents this condensed, outdoor version of his award-winning musical Strike! in the very location of “Bloody Saturday” – the 1919 General Strike event that inspired the musical. Strike! – Winnipeg Shocks the Nation features a cast of 100, mounted horses, antique vehicles and a life-size replica of the iconic streetcar at the centre of the riot.

“Tory Times: The Right is Wrong”
