Kerry Pither’s Dark Days: The Story of Four Canadians Tortured in the Name of Fighting Terror

Posted April 17th, 2009

Join us for a dramatic reading from Kerry Pither’s Dark Days: The Story of Four Canadians Tortured in the Name of Fighting Terror

Terry MacLeod, host of “Information Morning” on CBC Radio One 89.3 and Ibrahim (Obby) Khan, Winnipeg Blue Bombers offensive lineman #60 will join author Kerry Pither in this reading and discussion about her critically acclaimed book.

Dark Days tells the story of a Canadian national security investigation gone wrong through the eyes of four of its targets: Ahmad El Maati, Abdullah Almalki, Maher Arar and Muayyed Nureddin. All were accused of terrorist links, but no evidence was ever produced. All were detained overseas and subjected to brutal torture. All were interrogated with questions from Canadian agencies. All were eventually released and returned to Canada to demand answers. All want to ensure this never happens again.

“Sober, well written and horrific. Grit your teeth and read. These are your rights too.”
— Bestselling author, John le Carré

“Brilliant.”
— Robert Fisk, The Independent

The reading will be followed by a discussion with the audience and book signing.

Eckhardt-Gramatte Hall, University of Winnipeg

Admission is free
