Marianne Cerilli had the good fortune of being raised by labour leader Al Cerilli. She recently reviewed his personal papers gleaning lessons from history on how they organized to win the 40-hour work week and other milestones. We can learn from Al’s example how to live the adage – don’t agonize organize -which he practiced from the beginning of his career in the labour movement as the chair of the political action committee as a CN dining car worker, to retiring as the VP of the CBRT&GW. And after retirement founding the Canadian Congress of Union Retirees, the first UM Labour Studies Scholar in residence, and other activism. Marianne will share some lessons from history and strategies on organizing and politicizing workers to act on their own interests based on their lived experience.

Manitoba-Cuba Solidarity Committee invites you to participate in a Rally Against the U.S. Blockade of Cuba on Sunday, May 28 from 1-2 p.m. at the corner of River & Osborne. This is part of the world-wide rallies and car caravans on the last Sunday of the month initiated by Bridges of Love, puentes de amor, started in Miami in the Spring of 2021 and now in cities all over North America and many countries in the world. We will also call for Cuba to be taken off the U.S. list of states sponsoring terrorism as it is completely untrue and is causing Cuba great harm in addition to the damage caused by the 60+ years of the Blockade.
