& Candle Lighting in Memory of the Six Million
Every year since the end of the Second World War, UJPO has honoured the 1943 uprising of the people living under the jackboots of Nazi occupation in Warsaw. This year our theme will address the trauma of war, and how these ordeals affect people who survive them and generations that follow, with reference to history and today.
Everyone is invited and admission is free. The North End Jewish Folk Choir will present a program of songs of resistance and struggle.
Mark Etkin BA, MD, FRCPC (Psychiatry), has a long-standing focus on working with people with trauma histories, including HIV-infected individuals in San Francisco in the 90’s, medically-ill patients with significant mental health challenges, core area populations, and homeless people in Manitoba and BC. He will discuss the complex and multiple aspects of trauma as it relates to the victims and survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto.
